Julie's Notes on These Quilts

  1. Amish Center Diamond: Traditional Amish quilts are known for their use of bold colors, which contrast with the Amish lifestyle, but simple designs, which complement it.
  2. Hawaiian Quilt: Traditional Hawaiian quilts use bold, solid colors and radially symmetric designs, which are often reminiscent of tropical flowers. I made this quilt after a trip to Hawaii in 1989.
  3. Mini-Quilts: The larger of these quilts, on the left, has three-inch stars. After I finished that quilt, I decided to try to miniaturize the quilt, resulting in 1 1/2 inch stars.
  4. Hearts: This is a very small quilt; I forget the exact dimensions.
  5. Sunbonnet Sue: A little banal, but always a favorite. Every quilter has to make one of these in her lifetime, I guess.
  6. Orchids: I pieced this top many years ago. It was set aside awhile, and eventually I decided that we needed a quilt for our bed. The hand quilting really "made" this quilt.
  7. David's Baby Quilt: Made for my son, David, when he was born (1983).
